L. plantarum reduces heart disease risk
We set out to explore the effects of Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 14917 on heart disease in ApoE-deficient mice. Over 12 weeks, these mice were given the probiotic, and we analyzed their heart health and inflammation levels.

The results were intriguing; while L. plantarum didn’t impact body weight or overall fat levels, it did significantly reduce atherosclerotic lesions. Additionally, markers of inflammation and oxidative stress improved, suggesting this probiotic might help slow heart disease progression.

Lactobacillus plantarum reduces cholesterol
We investigated how Lactobacillus plantarum ECGC 13110402 affects cholesterol levels in a group of 49 adults with normal to mildly high cholesterol. This double-blind, placebo-controlled study showed promising results. Specifically, we observed a notable decrease in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides after 12 weeks, alongside a rise in HDL cholesterol.

Additionally, systolic blood pressure reduced significantly in participants over 60 during the study. Importantly, the probiotic was well-tolerated with no gastrointestinal side effects. Overall, this strain shows potential as a natural option to help reduce heart disease risk.

Probiotic improves vascular function
We looked into whether the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum 299v (Lp299v) can improve heart health by enhancing vascular function and reducing inflammation in men with stable coronary artery disease (CAD).

Over six weeks, twenty men consumed Lp299v, leading to improved blood vessel function and reduced levels of certain inflammatory markers.

Notably, there were no significant changes in traditional risk factors like cholesterol levels. Our findings suggest that Lp299v holds promise for heart health, particularly through its effects on gut-derived metabolites.

We investigated whether adding Lactobacillus plantarum to standard simvastatin treatment could reduce cardiovascular risk in dyslipidemic patients. In a study with 77 participants aged 40-74, we found that the combination therapy significantly lowered total cholesterol and LDL levels after 8 and 12 weeks.

The results showed not only a noteworthy decline in lipid levels but also in cardiovascular risk scores for those receiving the probiotic. This suggests that Lactobacillus plantarum may enhance heart health when used alongside traditional medications.

Lactobacillus plantarum lowers blood pressure
We investigated whether Lactobacillus plantarum could help combat high blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart disease. By using a special strain, we were able to express angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory peptides and test their effects on spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Our findings were promising; after treatment, systolic blood pressure significantly decreased, and beneficial changes in important biological markers were observed, without major side effects. This suggests that Lactobacillus plantarum could be a safe and effective approach to managing hypertension and supporting heart health.

Probiotics reduce heart disease risks
We explored the effects of the Lab4 probiotic consortium, featuring Lactobacillus plantarum, on heart disease by studying LDL receptor deficient mice on a high-fat diet. The results showed that Lab4P lowered harmful LDL/VLDL levels and increased beneficial HDL while reducing plaque-related inflammation. Notably, it also stabilized arterial plaque, suggesting a positive impact on heart health. However, these findings are based solely on animal models, prompting the need for further research in humans to confirm these effects.
